Abstract

The article aims to analyze the strategy “home gardens” as a socio-environmental sustainability option, taking as a contextual reference the experience of solidarity actions of food security with families of the Municipality of Tenza, Boyacá, Colombia. The methodology is approached from three phases: 1. Diagnostic oriented to the recognition of the intervened community, through a sociodemographic, environmental and food safety characterization sheet. 2. Design of a strategic plan with solidarity actions to meet the needs found in the diagnosis. 3. Implementation of the proposed plan in the communities under study. The results show that the home garden model and the use of organic solid waste are relevant strategic options to generate in the community an initiative to reflect on food security and socio-environmental sustainability. It is concluded that, if the population has a better food supply, an optimal nutrient intake can be guaranteed, improving the levels of well-being and health status of its inhabitants
