Solid waste generation in the town of Galapa, Atlántico: Uses to minimize environmental problems
Keywords:
Recycling and recovery, solid waste, pollution, generation.Abstract
In the municipality of Galapa different sources and levels of pollution can be identified; solid waste is among them. In general terms, it is evident the lack of adequate management; furthermore, this deficiency is a resemblance of the community’s perception of the situation, which can be observed through the way in which they manage, collect, transport, and make the final disposal of waste. So as to achieve this study’s objective, the town was divided into population units and random-sampling household surveys were conducted through questionnaires, interviews, collection centers visits, and public institutions consulting. Results show the impact of not having an efficient waste management system; however, this can be improved through environmental education programs for a more appropriate waste use in the community to enhance their health status and quality of life, thus, going beyond mere regeneration of an environment.Downloads
