Gender socialization in homosexual women migrants

Introduction: This study seeks to investigate the impact of socialization in homosexual women. Objective: Understanding the repercussions of stereotypes and gender roles division among lesbian couples. Methodology: Qualitative methodology, through in-depth interviews of 20 women in Spain and New York. Each testimony has been examined by the content analysis technic. Results and discussion: Organized around four topics; Education and occupation, gender stereotypes, sexuality and gender roles. These topics show that more equality in the chorus distribution is possible. Conclusions: Gender socialization continues to perpetuate stereotypes and roles among romantic relationships between women, but it is possible a new conceptualization of gender relationships that implies equity in different aspects: personal, organizational and symbolic. The majority of the interviewed decided their relationships considering these points.
