Abstract

One of the most relevant aspects in the development of a scientific or professional guild is related to awards, un-derstood as acknowledgments to colleagues for their ca-reer or notable achievements for the development of their respective fields. As a behavioral science and profession, psychology offers an important antecedent of several kinds of awards. The American Psychological Associa-tion is remarkable in this aspect. In Latin America, the Interamerican Society of Psychology has been pioneer of awards since several decades ago with the Interameri-can Prizes of Psychology. These Prizes are offered bien-nially during the Interamerican Congresses of Psycho-logy. Since 2005 it has been added to this ceremony the Rubén Ardila Prize, offered by the Foundation for the Advancement of Psychology to colleagues with a distin-guished career in scientific research in psychology. The goal of this article is introducing this recent tradition (2005-2015) of the Latin American organized psycholo-gy, and reflecting about its antecedents and impacts as inputs for the historiography of the behavioral sciences in Latin America.
