Micromobility Consumption: Active Mobility, a challenge for rural territories, Santa Elena, Medellin - Colombia

Abstract

This study analyzes the social representations and the rural context around mobility, in people who in the last three years have migrated their place of residence from the urban area of the city of Medellin to the rural area in the village of Santa Elena (Colombia), in order to understand the impact of these; in the dynamics of consumption of micromobility in rural areas. Qualitative ethnographic study, carried out from September to October 2021 in the village of Santa Elena. Sixteen people were interviewed, both men and women between 25 and 40 years old who in the last three years have migrated their place of residence from the urban area of the city of Medellin to the rural area in the village of Santa Elena. Three categories were identified that should be taken into account when promoting the consumption of micromobility in rural territories, such as: context of the place, nearby access and paradigms around micromobility in rural areas. It can be concluded that understanding micromobility as part of the development of rural areas (people's mobility ecosystem) is the result of factors such as: infrastructure development and appropriation of public space, context conditions, social representations around mobility and environmental awareness; generating as a consequence an efficient use of public and road space, and encouraging commerce through the creation of spaces to inhabit and not to pass through.
