Abstract

The optimal distribution in a plant or building allows to develop activities in a safe way, that the product is developed in the shortest possible time, efficiency of use of spaces and optimization of internal flows. The systematic layout planning (SLP) methodology designed by Richard Muther in 1968, allows solving problems of plant distribution, this methodology uses quantitative criteria to design a distribution in order to increase the level of productivity and reduce costs.

The SLP methodology is applied in a leather goods micro-enterprise in the Colombian industrial sector where currently there are delays in its operations, inefficiency in the use of spaces, difficulties in maintaining the plant and reducing its productivity. The micro-enterprise wants to redistribute the plant in order to increase its productive capacity and optimize the development of its operations. A redistribution in the factory is established through work study techniques and implementing the methodology SLP, where the relationships of space and proximity between areas are defined. Optimal redistribution is achieved through the design, study, and evaluation of various distribution alternatives.

Through the SLP, a plant redistribution is proposed that allows to minimize delays in operations, increasing efficiency in the use of spaces, performing maintenance and monitoring processes in a more optimal way. On the other hand, it allows to expand the productive capacity from the reduction of routes, also contributes to the improvement of the internal flow and reduction of congestion.
