Abstract

Sonora is one of the states with the highest livestock production in Mexico; this activity generates significant amounts of residual biomass. Anaerobic biodigestion is an alternative to generate energy from this waste. When opting for this process, it is necessary to previously know its energy potential, which is estimated as it is in this case from livestock censuses and parameters based on the conditions of the region. Taking into consideration an energy efficiency of 30%, it would be possible to obtain as a result a production of 478 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the consumption of 12% of the homes in the state. Due to the factors considered, Sonora is a highly potential state to opt for this type of energy generation; however, it must be taken into consideration that there are private biomass generating sources.
