Abstract

This study gives a view of the energy panorama of Mexico and its energy transition through 3 comparative scenarios of capacity and generation potential for renewable energies;  The 1st given by the generation potential categorized as Proven, Probable and Possible issued by the Secretary of Energy ;on the 2nd there are 4 scenarios given by the areas or sites with high potential for clean energy generation projects, considering, or not, the 2018 National Transmission Network compared to 2016 and finally the scenario set by the Indicative Program for Installation and Removal of Electrical Centrals (PIIRCE) to model the optimal expansion of the Transmission Network comparing 2018-2032 with respect to 2019-2032.The comparisons made allow us to say that Mexico is a country rich in resources with high areas of energy potential, with photovoltaic energy being the one with the greatest evolution in renewable energy, denoting its capacity and generation potential. The PIIRCE comparisons led us to verify the fact that Mexico did not achieve the objective established under the Copenhagen Accord which sought to reduce Greenhouses Gases (GHG) emissions by up to 30% by 2020.A Mexico that considerably increases the proportion of renewable energy in the set of energy source of renewable energy in the set of energy sources is essential for a Mexico or tomorrow.
