Abstract

The present work presents a prototype supported by the Internet of Things (IoT) architecture. This prototype allows to automate several functions of an electric generator in case of power failure, such as automatic on/off switching, considering the electrical conditions. Also, it allows controlling variables such as fuel level, temperature, hours of use of the equipment, which facilitates oil changes, and preventive maintenance. In addition, it has an automatic power load manager, which prevents the generator from starting at maximum power from the start; thus, extending the life span of the electronic power circuits. Finally, to control remotely the mentioned functions, a mobile application is presented that allows the end-users to monitor in real-time the operation of the generator, through the implementation of the Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) communication protocol.
